Genesee County Among Top 5 in State for Percentage of Deficient Bridges

Wyoming County Highway Superintendent Todd Gadd discussed the balance municipalities face while requesting funding by comparing Wyoming County to others. “Just because the number is seven (bridges) instead of 13 (bridges) doesn’t mean that those seven aren’t as important to someone who travels it everyday or the school bus that goes across,” Gadd said. Winter Is Coming. Is Your Road Crew Ready?

Public works departments have ordered their road salt, are preparing to mount winter equipment on trucks and will soon begin keeping an eye on the skies for the first snowstorm of the season. “Preparation for winter plowing season generally starts in August or September,” said Andrew Avery, Chemung County’s commissioner of public works. Read More >>

Pillittere Resigning as County Public Works Commissioner

After six years as Cattaraugus County Public Works Department commissioner, Joseph Pillittere will step down later this month. Pillittere was appointed commissioner by county lawmakers on June 8, 2011, after having spent a year as deputy commissioner under Commissioner David Rivett. Pillittere tendered his resignation in a letter to County Administrator Jack Searles late last week. He said his last day would be Nov. 10. Read More >>

County Seeks Highway Funds

Minnesota's Martin County commissioners heard this week from County Engineer Kevin Peyman, who reviewed an application to the state to help fund work on County Road 26. “Last year in the legislative session, part of the bonding bill is that they put $25 million toward the local road improvement bonding program,” Peyman said. “They look for projects that are multi-jurisdiction, so 26 is nice because it starts inside the city of Fairmont and it goes outside. The other part they look at is economic impact.” Read More >>

Heavy Rains Close Several County Roads

The Cumberland County Highway Department in Tennessee reported there were several roads closed in various areas of the county and damages are unknown at this time due to the heavy rains, and one motorist was rescued after attempting to cross a flooded area. Read More >>

Abu Dhabi Fund to Invest in Cube Highways & Infrastructure

The Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) would buy a minority stake for about $300 million in Cube Highways & Infrastructure, marking the biggest private equity investment so far in India’s pure-play roads platform. This is ADIA’s first investment in India’s core surface-infrastructure space, with the sovereign Middle East fund looking to further diversify its assets base in the country where debt-laden local developers are increasingly seeking to offload their operating road assets to meet repayment commitments to lenders. Read More >>
