Letter To The Editor: Merging NYS Bridge, Thruway Authorities

Governor Cuomo's proposal to merge the state Bridge Authority and Thruway Authority is an opportunity to streamline government services by bringing together two organizations with overlapping roles and resources. There will be no disruption to the operations of the Bridge Authority: tolls will continue to be kept among the lowest in the nation, serving the authority's operational and capital needs and keeping its long-term capital plan intact. Read More >>

Low Bridge Crashes Persist in New York Despite Costly Attempts at Fix

You're commuting home after a long day's work and boom - you're stuck in traffic for hours. Chances are at least one of those delays was due to a truck hitting a low bridge on a parkway that shouldn't have been on the road in the first place. It often looks like the tops of the trucks have been peeled off by a can opener, and in many cases, the contents of that truck spill over the parkway -- everything from butter to gasoline. The New York area has some of the lowest bridges in the country, and they're struck at least 150 times a year. "It's frustrating," says Joe Fitzpatrick, who owns a trucking business and is a driver himself. "You're wondering, how did I get on here? How can I get myself out of here? What did I do wrong?" Madison County Administrator Highlights Region’s Accomplishments

The department completed road rehabilitation projects on 12 roads totaling 28 miles. The work included cold in-place recycling, hot mix paving, mill and fill paving, and associated shoulder, ditch and tree work. The department also replaced seven large culverts, one bridge superstructure, and dozens of small-sized culverts. The maintenance crew completed nearly 60 miles of crack seal and chip seal on county roads. Read More >>

Custer County Supervisors Approve Highway Department’s One And Six-Year Plan 

It was a quick meeting for the Custer County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday, February 11 with most of the meeting centered around the one and six-year plan for the Custer County Highway Department. Custer County Highway Superintendent Chris Jacobsen informed the board that there were an additional eleven projects that the department will be taking on this year. Nine of those projects are flood-related and a number of those must be completed by September due to regulations from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Jacobsen told the board that the projects vary from required maintenance and controlling potential floodwaters to complete rebuilds of roads and bridges. Read More >>

DOT Grant to Fund New Bridge Over Hwy. 90, Road Infrastructure for Improved Access to Port of Gulfport

City and state leaders are sharing their ideas on how to improve Louisiana roads. Members of the Joint Highway Priority Construction Committee held a meeting Tuesday at the Clifton Chenier Center in Lafayette. The hearings, referred to as DOTD "Road Show," review highway construction priorities for the fiscal year 2020-2021.I-10 over the Atchafalaya and the I-49 Connector were both topics of interest during the discussion. Each DOTD District will be hosting its own Road Show to allow legislators, other elected officials, DOTD representatives and the general public to discuss and obtain information about construction projects in the preliminary FY 20-21 Highway Priority Program and how those projects will affect each area of the state. Read More >>
