New York State has completed the $150 million Woodbury Road Transit and Economic Development Hub project in Orange County five years ahead of schedule. The project improves traffic patterns, mobility and safety. The project reconstructed the ramps accessing Interstate 87, replaced the Route 32 bridge over Route 17, constructed a Monroe-Woodbury High School Access Drive connector road for local school bus traffic, installed more than 2,000 solar panels at the Exit 16 right of way, and reconfigured the Exit 131 interchange between State Route 17 and State Route 32 to improve traffic flow. Read More >>

Herkimer to Seek Pair of Grants to Assist With Projects

The town of Herkimer is looking into seeking grants for a pair of projects. Town Supervisor Dominic Frank recommended the move during a town board meeting Monday. One grant is for an engineering study to fix ongoing problems on Piper Road in East Herkimer where the road is sliding. The town will have to hire a grant writer, he said. The second is to fund the West Canada Creek project. “We have a plan. We need money,” said Frank. He said the town would have to hire a consultant to put together a grant application. C.T. Male conducted a study to determine what steps should be taken to put a halt to erosion problems along the West Canada Creek. The study, which looked at the area from Kast Bridge to the area south of the Mitchell Bridge, involved test boring, field studies and site inspections as well as a review of other reports and resulted in recommendations for what should be done in three areas. Read More >>

"This is a great plan for the city of Bloomington. Every state route within the city will be positively impacted in some way. A lot of the pavements in Bloomington that are not in good shape currently are state routes, so ... this will have a direct daily impact on people's lives in a positive way." The prescribed work is also more likely to be completed on schedule after the General Assembly passed not only a $45 billion infrastructure plan but a sustainable funding model — designating the motor fuel tax, which doubled from 19 cents to 38 cents in July, to increase further with inflation. Read More >>

Joe Biden Has a $1.3 Billion Plan For Our Infrastructure

As a candidate and during the early part of his presidency, President Trump pledged to make America’s infrastructure great again. (With the election less than a year away, the self-proclaimed “Builder-in-Chief” produced an infrastructure plan that he has yet to drive across the finish line.) But it was Biden who first made national headlines about the awful state of the nation’s mobility network after his description of LaGuardia Airport as a “Third World” facility. Read More >>
