Rockland County Is Ready For Snow

Rockland County Executive Ed Day and County Highway Superintendent Charles H. Vezzetti announced that the Rockland County Highway Department is well prepared for this coming snow and ice season. The Highway Department will be holding its annual snow and ice school on November 6th and 7th at 23 New Hempstead Road, New City. All members of the Department will receive a refresher course in plowing, sensible salting, as well as personal and operational safety. The training concludes with operators making trial runs of their individual snow plow routes. Read More >>

Flooding, Wind Damage Cleanup Continues in Jefferson County After Friday's Storm

Now that the winds have subsided, Jefferson County Highway Department Superintendent James L. Lawrence Jr. said county highway workers must clean up debris and repair and assess storm damage. Gusts that exceeded 60 mph blew over and twisted about 200 signs that must be replaced or otherwise addressed. Trees, limbs and branches must be removed from roadways. Workers also have begun unclogging culverts that flooded on county roads along Lake Ontario, including roads on Point Salubrious, Chaumont, and Pillar Point, Brownville. Read More >>

Bridge Closure in St. Lawrence County Creates Problem For Winter Recreation

The Jones Road bridge was closed after state inspectors found it badly damaged in September. Donald Chambers, St. Lawrence County Highway Superintendent, said it was from trucks violating its 3-ton limit “There was evidence of an overload situation which has caused permanent damages to the trusses,” said Chambers. Lower truss braces are bent. There's severe rust. It's more than 100 years old. The county does have plans to rehabilitate it. Read More >>

South Dakota County Highway Auction Items Net $82,000 and Counting

The surplus equipment items the Bennett County Highway department put on Purple Wave Auction has netted the County approximately $82,000, with more items, including a grader at $29,000, still to sell soon, according to Highway Superintendent Terry Smokov. Smokov updated the Bennett County Commissioners at the regular meeting, Monday, Nov. 4, on the sale of several items and updated the board on other highway work. Read More >>

Fire in Northern and Southern California Threaten Infrastructure

With California in the middle of peak wildfire season, several fires are burning across the state, causing evacuations, road closures and power outages. Both the Getty Fire in Los Angeles County and the Kincade Fire in Sonoma County are forcing large evacuations. Read More >>
