Flash Flooding Prompts State of Emergency in Upstate New York and Causes Travel Delays, Water Rescues in New Jersey

Slow-moving thunderstorms spawned a significant flooding event across southeastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey Wednesday night into Thursday morning. The flooding turned the early morning commute into chaos, as many roads were closed and rail service was interrupted. One of the main road closures was Interstate 295 in Bellmawr, New Jersey, where numerous motorists became stranded on northbound and southbound lanes due to the rising floodwaters. Read More >>

State Legislature Reinstates Winter Road Repair Funding in St. Lawrence County, NYS

Dozens of bills were reportedly voted on in the state Legislature in the final hours of the session Thursday night and Friday morning, and restoration of aid to municipalities for repair to roads after rough treatment over the winter will be welcomed by local highway departments. Read More >>

Blount to Begin Repairs on Townsend Swinging Bridge Starting Next Week

The county has announced it will reopen the recently closed Dark Island swinging bridge in Townsend before the Fourth of July holiday, with repair work set to begin as early as Monday. Commissioner Ron French announced before Thursday’s County Commission business got underway that the county had reached an agreement with Townsend officials to repair and reopen the bridge by June 28. Read More >>

Updated Infrastructure Will Lead to Less Traffic Fatalities

This week, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimated 36,750 people were killed in traffic crashes last year in the United States which is 12.2% above the all-time low of 32,744 traffic-related deaths in 2014. Total crash deaths never topped 34,000 from 2009 through 2014. So what could be to blame for the increase? Cellphone usage and distracted driving are part of the equation, but experts believe our crumbling infrastructure is partially to blame as well.  Read More >>

Mega Transportation, Infrastructure Projects to be Completed in 2 Years

Now that the Istanbul mayoral polls have been completed safely and soundly, the government will be occupied with economic reforms and the completion of ongoing mega-scale transportation and infrastructure projects for the next four years, a period with no scheduled elections. For high-speed train lines across Turkey, a colossal bridge over the Çanakkale Strait and highways around the country, the next two years will be a good time to witness the further development of Turkish infrastructure, which will in return facilitate more vibrant trade in the country. One of the high-speed railway lines is Ankara-Sivas, which will reduce travel time between the two central Anatolian cities from five hours to two hours. This line is a significant link for Asian countries located in Asia Minor and along the Silk Road. Read More >>
