Franklin County Officials Announce Road Rehab Plan

In the hazy ghost of a storm that had passed, Franklin County officials announced a tentative plan to rebuild and repair several county roads. On Tuesday morning, county Legislators Lindy Ellis, Donald Dabiew and Paul Lauzon stood with county Manager Donna Kissane, Highway Superintendent Brad Marsh and new Deputy Highway Superintendent Jeff Dora to explain the first part of a tentative 10-year road plan. Read More >>

County Legislature Highlights: Legislators Act on Three BridgeNY-Funded Projects

The Legislature took several necessary actions to proceed with three bridge replacement projects funded under this year's New York State BridgeNY program. Without dissent, the Legislature approved a funding agreements with the NYS Department of Transportation for replacement of the Central Chapel Road Bridge over Boice Creek in the Town of Caroline and replacement of the Etna Lane Bridge over Fall Creek in the Town of Dryden; approving design service contracts with LaBella Associates for the Central Chapel Road Bridge replacement, and with Barton & Loguidice for the Etna Lane Bridge project, authorizing amendment of the five-year Capital Program to incorporate both projects. Read More >>

Excessive Rains in May Causing Headache for County Road Conditions

With the heavy and long lasting rain we've had over the past several weeks, many gravel county roads are in rough shape. The Public Works Department in Hastings says that the washed away gravel and their resources are still too wet to use to begin repairs. Read More >>

47,052 Bridges Deficient, Report Says

The American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) analysis of the recently-released U.S. Department of Transportation 2018 National Bridge Inventory (NBI) database reveals 47,052 bridges are classified as structurally deficient and in poor condition. Cars, trucks and school buses cross these compromised structures 178 million times every day, the data show. Nearly 1,775 are on the Interstate Highway System. Read More >>
