Oneida County’s Davis Chosen to Lead State Highway Superintendents’ Group

The New York State County Highway Superintendents Association elected Oneida County Commissioner of Public Works Dennis Davis president at its Annual Winter Conference and Tradeshow last week at The Saratoga Hilton in Saratoga Springs. Davis was appointed commissioner in 2010. He joined Oneida County in June 1980 and held various positions in the Highways, Bridges & Structure Division and was appointed Deputy Commissioner of the Division in August 1993. He serves on the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and the Climate Resiliency Committee for the New York State Association of Counties. Read More >>

State Infrastructure Committee Makes Recommendations

A report from an Assembly minority group is calling for more attention to state infrastructure. At a news conference in Albany on Monday, the Assembly Minority Task Force on Critical Infrastructure and Transportation released its findings and recommendations after a lengthy statewide review. The task force traveled around the state holding eight open forums and discussions with local governments and town supervisors, gathering information and talking about the issues facing the state’s crumbling and outdated roads and bridges. 

Towns and Villages Set to Lose Thousands in Funding Through State Aid to Municipalities Elimination

Most towns and villages in Genesee County will see the elimination of their Aid to Municipalities funding from the state if the executive budget proposed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo is approved. The village of Le Roy would lose $34,391, the town of Pembroke $32,517 and the town of Batavia $29,425, according to the website, maintained by The Democrat and Chronicle. Read More >>

County Monitoring Traffic Counts By Barn Site; Other Issues Discussed at Board Meeting 

Dodge County is monitoring traffic levels in the area surrounding the site of a proposed 10-barn poultry operation in Nickerson to which the county supervisors denied a conditional use permit at the last county board meeting. The board denied the permit in a 4 to 2 vote on Jan. 17, with some board members citing resident concerns about the proposal’s potential impact on traffic along County Road O and at crossings with area highways. Read More >>

Local Roads Matter 2019
March 5 - 6 | Albany, NY

Each March, over 600 County and Town Highway Superintendents, Public Works Commissioners and Highway industry professionals converged at the New York State Capitol and Legislative Office Building in Albany, New York for the "Local Roads Matter!" Advocacy Campaign. The groups urged the Governor and state lawmakers to make the maintenance and repair of local roads and bridges a top priority in the state budget.
