North Fork Traffic Woes Addressed with Business Community

Tim Hens to Head National Association of County Engineers

Genesee County Highway Superintendent Timothy Hens has added another project to his long list of responsibilities. Hens, who oversees Genesee’s highways, airport, water, environmental health, facility maintenance, and parks, recreation and forestry departments, has been installed as President-elect of the National Association of County Engineers. According to Hens, the decision was made at NACE’s recent annual meeting and technical conference, and his term will run through April 2019. Read More >>

Broome's Billion-Dollar Baby

City Hall on Thursday laid out an ambitious plan to tackle Baton Rouge’s perpetual traffic woes, suggesting $1 billion worth of improvements for federal highways, city streets and some country roads. Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome wants proceeds from a 30-year half-cent sales tax increase to improve roads and sidewalks throughout East Baton Rouge Parish. High-priced projects would improve much of Airline Highway, widen roads in and around Central and build a new Interstate 10 interchange with a four-lane Pecue Lane. Read More >>

SCDOT to Spend $18 million on Tri-County Road Repairs in 2019

New plans released by the South Carolina Department of Transportation detail $417 million in road improvement projects for 2019 across the state of South Carolina. The pavement, improvement and preservation projects are part of SCDOT’s six-year State Transportation Improvement Plan (STIP). The new plans released by SCDOT show more than $18 million being spent on improvements to infrastructure in the Tri-County area. "The roads are awful," Charleston resident Erin Lala said. "They really need help, there's tons of potholes, the roads are uneven, they don't even drain right." Read More >>
