ENGINEER II

The Warren County Department of Public Works is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Engineer II. The Engineer II is responsible for full-performance engineering design and management requiring thorough knowledge and experience in a wide range of engineering duties in connection with the design, construction, inspection or maintenance of public works. The Engineer II is expected to have the ability to apply this knowledge and experience to complete complex engineering projects and assignments.

SALARY: $73,670

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

A Bachelor’s Degree* in engineering, engineering technology or a closely related field and five (5) years of experience** performing either:

  • Engineering design of highways, bridges, culverts and/or facilities using AutoCAD or other engineering software, or
  • Field inspection of highways, culverts, bridges and/or facilities, or
  • Technical writing or engineering reports and project bid documents/technical specifications

OR
An Associate’s Degree* in engineering, engineering technology or a closely related field and seven (7)  years of experience** performing either:

  • Engineering design of highways, bridges, culverts and/or facilities using AutoCAD or other engineering software, or
  • Field inspection of highways, culverts, bridges and/or facilities, or
  • Technical writing of engineering reports and project bid documents/technical specifications.

* Acceptable areas of engineering education include Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architectural Engineering or a closely related field.  Degrees in the following fields are not acceptable: Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Public Health Engineering or Computer Technology.

** One year of experience must have included project leader responsibilities of persons performing professional activities.

The position will be filled based upon Civil Service requirements. A provisional appointment will be made with examination to be held at a later date. Candidate must meet Civil Service requirements for appointment following establishment of the Eligible List. Authority to fill this job vacancy is pending approval of the Board of Supervisors. CONSTRUCTION SPECIALIST I

The Warren County Department of Public Works is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Construction Specialist I. Incumbents in this class utilize strong empirical knowledge and extensive experience to perform complex civil engineering work in the design, construction, inspection and evaluation of roads, structures and other public works facilities.  Work is performed in accordance with established engineering practices and principles under general supervision with wide latitude for the exercise of independent judgment in planning and scheduling work, selecting work methodology, evaluating information and preparing reports and recommendations, preparing plans, resolving problems in the field and performing work.

SALARY: $65,566

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from a New York State registered or regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree* in engineering, engineering technology, construction management or a closely related field and four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in civil engineering technology or construction management; OR

Graduation from a New York State registered or regionally accredited college or university with an Associate’s Degree* in engineering, engineering technology, construction management or a closely related field and six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in civil engineering technology or construction management; OR

Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in engineering, engineering technology or construction management; OR

Any equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limitations set forth in Paragraphs A and B above.

The Department of Public Works is looking for a Senior Civil Engineer. This is a Provisional Appointment; permanent appointment requires successful completion, and placement, through the Civil Service examination process.

This work involves performing civil engineering studies necessary for the development, upkeep, and improvement of County infrastructure. Responsibilities may include design, development and implementation of projects involving bridge and road construction, waste management, and traffic engineering. Supervision is exercised over subordinate engineering department personnel. This position differs from that of a Civil Engineer by virtue of expanded scope and level of responsibility. Work is performed under general direction of the Director of Engineering with wide latitude allowed for use of independent judgment in carrying out technical aspects of the work. A Senior Civil Engineer does related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from regionally accredited or New York State-registered college or university with baccalaureate degree in engineering; four years’ practical engineering experience; and possession of a license and current registration issued by the New York State Education Department to practice as a professional engineer.

NOTE: In lieu of the degree and experience requirements, twelve years of practical experience in work satisfactory to the State board of engineering and land surveying may be accepted, provided that each full year of college study in engineering satisfactory to the education department may at the discretion of the board be accepted in lieu of two years of the required twelve years of experience. Education above the baccalaureate level may also be applied in lieu of the four years of post-baccalaureate engineering experience in the discretion of the board.
